Gender Reveal

As it turned out, our appointment for our second ultrasound which would reveal the baby's gender was scheduled for Thursday, December 20, 2013, just five days before Christmas. We decided that we would keep the baby's gender a secret during this five day period until Christmas Day when we would gather with many of our family members on both sides of the family for our annual Christmas Day luncheon. Seemed easy enough right? Not so much. This was the most difficult secret I have ever had to keep. I was pretty much avoiding everyone at work on Friday who knew about my big appointment (kinda hard to do). We then went to Ocala for the weekend leading up to Christmas Day where I did my best to avoid saying gender-related pronouns, stories, references, etc. Needless to say, I was not entirely successful, and a few people, mainly my two brothers, were able to figure it out rather quickly.

My mom still swears she was completely surprised. I will say that on Chris' part he did excellent with keeping it a secret- much better then I ever managed! We did have a great time visiting with my parents, brothers, and aunt, and we even were able to sneak in a side night trip to the old Marion Theatre downtown to watch The Hobbit.

And, of course, when it all came down to it, not even the worst secret keeper in the world could ruin the amazing moment we had planned for sharing the happy news on Christmas Day.

So excited to meet Nicholas James Maitland!
