Day at Sea and a Look at Half Moon Cay

Day 6 and Day 7:
Because at this point they just blended together.

Happy Thanksgiving! Thursday of course was Thanksgiving Day and I have to say there is no more relaxing way to spend Thanksgiving then on a cruise ship. As my mom put it, she was thrilled not to have to wake up at 4:30am to begin cooking the turkey. None of are Black Friday shoppers either so we weren't missing much as far as shopping goes. We did however miss our family that we normally celebrate with so we will have to do some extra Thanksgiving gatherings when we get back!
Are day at sea was pretty typical, pool side layout, afternoon tea with all the family, and Chris got to attempt a Ping Pong rematch comeback. He made it through the first round this time, but then had another UCF fail in the second round (strong lead, tied it up, lost it in the end). I think his days of ping pong tournaments are over. We also did another Teamster Trivia and I think we did worse this time, but it felt like we were always so close. It was one of those situations where we knew the answer was between two different options and we always chose the wrong one. However, we were able to correctly guess that the three major organs that produce the most heat were the heart, liver, and the lungs. Don't ask me how...
Thanksgiving Dinner was fantastic! It was really fun to see the ship's chef's interpretation of what a Thanksgiving meal, and even more fun to order something completely non-traditional! Chris ordered a Surf 'n Turf entree with steak and lobster. I had another vegetarian entree which was really good, but we did share a couple courtesy bites of turkey and stuffing. My parents did the traditional Thanksgiving platter which consisted of turkey, cranberry sauce, sausage stuffing (so good), brussel sprouts (ew), sweet potato strips, and corn. My dad actually loves brussel sprouts and was the only one delighted about seeing them served. I haven't seen brussel sprouts in person since I was five and they still give me nightmares. We concluded the lovely evening with pie and more pie! My parents opted for the traditional pumpkin pie while Chris and I got the slightly traditional chocolate pecan pie. It was super delicious as was everything else we had that night- minus the sprouts.

Told ya they were scary.

The night kind of blended with the morning. It was very rocky that night and the seas were really rough which caused me to drift in and out of sleep. Thank goodness for pregnancy sleep or I am sure I would have been wide awake all night. Not out of fear or sea-sickness, but more so from the rattling of the doors on the closet when the waves crash and of the course the safe door closing shut (did not realize that was what was causing the noise until later in the night-whoops). However, the next day was supposed to be another busy day as we were going to the private island Half Moon Cay. Chris being Chris bolted awake too early in the morning and was very spritely for it being so early. I wouldn't say I was grumpy, but I was certainly not chipper. Chris wanted to be ready to be off the boat when they let down the gangway. He had big plans for snorkeling, laying out on the beach, and swimming in the ocean. However, this was not meant to be. Over breakfast several announcements were made regarding the conditions outside. They could not secure the boat enough so the captain had to re-anchor the boat causing a delay in us getting started. The tenders that were supposed to take us to the island were in danger of being hit by the boat as the waves were so rough. It was eventually decided that the weather was not conducive or safe for sending out tenders to the island so the excursion was canceled for the day. The crew, captain, and director were extremely apologetic, and personalized letters with updated itineraries were sent to all the cabins offering the passengers a complimentary glass of champagne with their dinner at the end of the night. We have experienced this before on cruises where we have been rerouted to a different location due to poor weather conditions for accessing the cruise line's private island. I told Chris I would understand if he needed to go snorkeling in the pool, but he didn't take me up on that.
We did stay poolside for most of the day where I was successful in not getting a burn, but did make out with a half a shade darker in skin color (yay). The rest of the day was spent at a leisurely pace where we had an afternoon tea with my dad, and caught some of Dark Knight Rises in the cabin before dinner.
Tonight's menu was International Food from around the world. I was super excited to order some yummy Vietnamese Spring Rolls (in fact I think we all tried that). Everybody was happy with their last dinner so to speak. Chris ordered his favorite, duck, and I had some curried tofu which was awesome with orecchietta and sausage (the vegetarian streak is broken at last). Dessert was the famous Baked Alaska which the crew did a special presentation/march in which they walked around the dining room with Baked Alaska platters while the dinner guests waved their napkins. The chefs and stewards all came out to say goodnight to which they were met with a round of applause. Really the food was exceptional and they were very deserving of all of our praise and gratitude.
The night ended with more Dark Knight Rises and lots of packing, but I was much more happy and content then I thought I was going to be. It's hard to be sad when you have had so much fun and many wonderful memories made with your family. I was very happy to be able to return to share pictures and stories with the rest of my family in Orlando and Titusville. And of course at this point I was dying to see Toby and Ronin so I went to sleep happy that night looking forward to returning to the real world once again.
