St. John, Antigua

Antigua is an island in the West Indies with over 31,000 residents. Its name means "ancient" in Spanish and the island has a very deep harbor which allows it to accommodate a variety of cruise ships. There were four other ships docked at the port when we arrived early that morning. The island itself was very beautiful and we got to take a more scenic tour of it via a Jeep excursion.

Our tour guide was very friendly and passionate about the land he was raised in. He knew a lot about the island and was always being waved to by a friend/family/neighbor. He also knew how to really drive. This isn't a tour for those with motion sickness. There were four jeeps altogether used to get the group of people around, but I think we had the best driver. It was a very bumpy ride to say the least so my picture taking was limited. At one point it got so bumpy my seat belt came off and I went flying into the lap of another passenger!

We were able to drive through the village of Buckleys, passed several large pineapple plantations, and went through the scenic valley of Body Pond. We stopped off at an old church that overlooked the surrounding area and ocean. The water was just as blue and clear as it had been in Jost Van Dyke so we were provided with a very nice photo opportunity! We even stopped off at a beach where we were allowed to wander and explore for a little over an hour.

Overall, it was a fairly overcast day, but it made for some pretty cool photos.
