My New Toy

As some of you may know, Chris and I have been looking for a camera to purchase for quite some time. Over the past six months, we have been talking with people who have bought SLR cameras and what there thoughts were on all the different products that were out there as well as doing some research on our own. We had it narrowed down to a handful of cameras including the Nikon D5000, the Nikon D3000, an underwater Olympus camera, or an SLR from the lesser known brand Pentax. We found it impossible to find a Pentax camera that we could view for ourselves in a store, and had some concerns about servicing a brand that is not carried in stores and only online. And while the underwater Olympus had obvious benefits, we both agreed I was the one who was going to be mainly using the camera and I had my heart set on the Nikon. It took a lot of convincing and discussing, debating, etc. but I finally convinced Chris to go with the upgrade. So, in about 1-2 weeks, depending on shipping, we will be the proud owners of a Nikon D5000.

We wound up purchasing a starter kit from Amazon which includes the case, a zoom lens, cleaning kit, and 2 training DVDs. Our deadline we had set for ourselves for getting a camera was by the time we go to Europe. This past weekend was when we finally had to actually commit and I have to say we couldn't be happier.

Big shout out to the following people who helped us with our research and gave Chris a little convincing on SLR's over point and shoot:

Uncle James: Thank you for all your help with giving us your experience with different brands and recommendations as far as how to proceed as first time SlR camera users.

Nastasha: Thank you for your product recommendations as they have helped us to go in the right direction.

Jesse and Beth: Thank you for giving us your perspective as Nikon camera owners, your happiness with the product, and for convincing Chris he should go with the upgrade.

my Dad: For your talk that you had with Chris on Sunday about cameras that had him purchasing one later that night. My final negotiator :)

And to all of you people at Sprint that told Chris not to purchase a camera because it will wind up in the closet..... :P
